Refunds Go Out in FTC Walgreens Wal-Born Settlement

By Sarah Pierce

Walgreens Wal-Born settlementConsumers who applied for a refund under the Federal Trade Commission’s Wal-Born settlement can expect to see a check in the mail sometime this week. An administrator working for the FTC mailed 7,979 checks averaging $27.42 each to eligible claimants, according to an announcement made on the FTC’s website September 20.

The checks are part of a settlement agreement reached between Walgreens and the FTC over allegations the national pharmacy chain deceptively advertised that its Wal-Born supplements could effectively prevent colds, fight germs, and boost the immune system.

The Wal-Born settlement checks, which total $218,750.00, must be cashed within 60 days after they are issued. The amount consumers receive will depend on how many valid approved claims they submitted. The redress is capped at $30 per consumer.

The deadline for filing a refund request was February 4, 2013. If you missed out, sign up for our free weekly e-newsletter below to receive new class action lawsuit and settlement updates. You can also see which settlements are still accepting claims in our Open Class Action Lawsuits section.

Consumers who have questions about the FTC Walgreens Wal-Born Settlement should call 1-800-598-3025 or visit www.FTC.gov/refunds. The FTC never requires consumers to pay money or provide information before redress checks can be cashed.

The case is Federal Trade Commission v. Walgreen Co., Case No. 10-cv-1813, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois.

I don’t understand. 8000 claims at $27 each equals $218,000. Does anyone know where the other $5,700,000 went. The settlement was $6,000,000. Rust, was your fee $5.700.000?

I’ve taken this before I have flown, thinking it would help prevent me from getting a cold or any other airborne virus that you could possibly get in such a tightly closed area or hours.

I received a rejection letter on this and also never heard anything from the sketcher’s settlement. I have never filed a claim with the FCC that I received a payment! not sure why I have been “tagged”!
