Award (how much your claim may be worth): $29 each but could be MUCH MUCH MORE. NO receipt or proof of purchase necessary to make your claim. Top Class Actions estimated payout per claimant is $145 or more each. The JVC 1080p HDTV class action lawsuit settlement covers 19,132 TVs and the fund will be split evenly among all claimants once the expenses have been paid. If every single claim is made the estimate is $29 each according to the settlement notice. Since class action lawsuit settlements typically have less than a 10% take rate Top Class Actions estimates that the fund will be split up among roughly 2,000 claimants. We multiply the estimated $29 award by five and come up with a conservative estimate of $145. Now that’s an amount that makes it worth printing out the claim form and submitting it.

TCA Staff Tidbit: The JVC 1080p HDTV class action lawsuit settlement is a great easy to claim settlement (and should be QUITE rewarding) for those who own these TVs. It’s sad that JVC allegedly sold TVs that couldn’t support 1080p when using an HDMI cable. As those of you out there with HDTVs know HDMI is the way to go and is what’s used when connecting to HD cable boxes, satellite receivers and Blu-Ray players. What good is a 1080p TV if you can’t use it at that resolution when connecting via an HDMI cable?
This is another case were class actions really pay off to the end user. Keep an eye on this one. Once it pays out, it will likely be $100 or more to each claimant. It’s unlikely anyone would file an individual lawsuit versus JVC so a class action is the best course of action. If it wasn’t for the class action you’d have thousands of consumers out there who would be getting a big whopping ZERO. They would be stuck with their TV and 1080i TV without anything in their pocket. Now they may be stuck watching TV at a slightly lower resolution (you likely won’t notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p unless the TV is larger than 50″ anyway) but with prices dropping they could buy an entry level blu-ray player with their award.
