Recently my electric power steering on my 2010 Chevy Malibu went out. I took her to a diagnostics Auto service and the computer says power steering assist motor is failing. I then looked up to see if there was a defective part in the electric power steering. Came across a class action case called Dori that dealt specifically with the electric power steering. In 2014 GM along with the national highway traffic safety administration issued a recall on all Chevrolet malibus from 2004 to 2009. Little later on GM issued a special coverage adjustment for the malibus from 2010 to 2012. A recall it’s a mandatory government regulated fixes for safety issues with no expiration date. Special coverage adjustments and voluntary manufacturer program for non safety concerns. Power steering goes out that is a safety issue so I started my campaign by going to general motors and the national highway traffic safety administration and requesting that they look at the information I was giving them. Simply put without going into technical details why did the recall go from 2004 to 2009 Chevy malibus and stop there? When the fact is the 2010 Malibu has the exact same electric power steering mechanism parts and setup as the 2004 through 2009 Chevy malibus. No one can give me an answer to why they stopped at the 2009 Malibu. The difference is huge because a recall there is no expiration date with the special coverage adjustment there is which is in this case 10 years or $150,000 miles. My Chevy Malibu is a 2010 so obviously it is no longer covered under the special coverage adjustment which again that is for a non-safety concern
It just makes no sense to me that the 2010 Malibu has the exact same parts as the recall on the 2004 to 2009 Malibu so why wasn’t the 2010 Malibu not covered under the recall? GM responded back they were not going to help me and I still have a pending investigation with the national highway traffic safety administration.
    Thank you
